“Study Visit and Scale-up Workshop” @Biosphere, 20/05/2025

On the 20th May, Biosphere had the pleasure to host the “Study Visit and Scale-up Workshop”,  an inspiring event promoted by the COPILOT project, a CSA action supported by CBE-JU –  Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking.

It was a great opportunity to exchange knowledge, showcase our facilities, and foster collaboration in the bioeconomy community.

Here some take-home messages of the day:

The market is increasingly open to new bio-based technologies, but more support from institutions is still needed to ensure a solid launchpad for startups and innovators as shown by data collected and showed by Cluster Spring;

Production capacity is available in existing Pilot & Demo Infrastructures in the EU ecosystem, you will find out more information on this topic in the “Pilots4U powered by COPILOT” project, the networking database that will be launched next June; (https://copilot-project.eu/).

Biotech has been confirmed as a cross-sectoral reality, impacting a wide range of industries. During the workshop, we explored its potential in different applications:

  • From the development of an enzyme cascading approach for the sustainable production of blue dye  designed by  NordicBlue Aps,
  • to the power of fermentation in cosmetics as shown by Roelmi HPC with the development of active ingredients for skin care applications with anti-oxidant and brightness properties,
  • and to the application of new microalgae strains designed by Biosyntex s.r.l. for delivering new ingredients in food and agritech sectors.

A special thank you to those who supported us in making this event possible: Mario Bonaccorso (Cluster Spring), Stef Denayer (Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant), Ines Gil (NordicBlue Aps), Cesar Francisco Trejo (Roelmi HPC), Niccolò Bassi (Biosyntex s.r.l.), and to everyone who joined and contributed to the success of the day.
