Assobiotec, the Italian Association for the Development of Biotechnology, represents approximately 130 businesses and science and technology parks, which operate in Italy in various fields where biotechnology is used: health, agriculture, the environment and industrial processes.

The Spring Cluster encourages the development of bioindustries in Italy through a holistic approach to innovation, aimed at revitalizing Italian chemistry under the sign of environmental, social and economic sustainability. The Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) is a non-profit organisation set up in Brussels in 2012. BIC represents the private sector in a public-private partnership (PPP) with the EU, represented by the European Commission, known as the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU), established in June 2014 as one of the pillars of the European Commission Bioeconomy Strategy.
